  9. Hi Guys!

Thanks for the feedback. It's Chris (mmix in the vici forum) who's actually doing the coding part. There are currently no new features for the agent interface. What has been done is to make it look a little bit more polished and professional.

@Enigma thank you in advance in supporting this project. We currently don't have any source of funding but donations and our own.

  11. @Enigma, you can post the issues you're having in the ViciDial forum: http://www.vicidial.org/VICIDIALforum/index.php. I haven't seen you there yet (I go by the nick of Gardo).

You can also send Paypal donations to demian.biscocho@gmail.com. This will be used for the development of VicidialNOW.

  12. @demian Nice! How easy will it be to upgrade a vicidialnow installation? We won't go into production until October 13th, so it sounds like we can make that with this new interface, am I right?

  14. @Enigma, thanks a lot! This goes a long way in helping the development of the project.

@Kim, there is no easy way yet to upgrade a VicidialNOW installation to a newer one. It still needs to be done manually. Hopefully the new release can make it before your production date. :)

  21. Hi Guys,

I'm currently migrating VicidialNOW to the latest CentOS (which is 5.4). This brings better hardware support and updated software packages. I'll keep you posted on the developments. No release date yet. Well... hopefully we get to have it before November ends. No more delays if possible.

  24. Hey, the layout looks familiar, happens to look like what I did a few years back for a call center in the Philippines. I would appreciate it if you can CHANGE your layout, into something that YOU actually DID. The icons you change alright, but the layout is still the same.

  25. Here's a snippet from the GPL:

When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for them if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it if you want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it in new free programs, and that you know you can do these things.
To protect your rights, we need to prevent others from denying you these rights or asking you to surrender the rights. Therefore, you have certain responsibilities if you distribute copies of the software, or if you modify it: responsibilities to respect the freedom of others.
For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must pass on to the recipients the same freedoms that you received. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.
Developers that use the GNU GPL protect your rights with two steps: (1) assert copyright on the software, and (2) offer you this License giving you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify it.

  26. The initial layout and design was COMMISIONED by Manixtone call center from you (and which you have FAILED TO PUBLISH). Since then we have worked on the initial design and layout and ported it to 2.0.5.X. Vicidial is GPL (Please read snippet from above). If you don't understand what GPL is, here's the link: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html .

  27. Dems,

I think we need to review more about Vic's layout.

What I think he is saying is that although yes VICIDIAL is open source, on the snippets you also need to get him to offer vicidialNOW the legal permission to copy, distribute and /or modify it.

He clearly doesnt want us to use the layout without getting his permission. I clearly dont want to create animosity between vicidialNOW and Vic. All he was saying is that we need to change the layout not the code itself.

This is just my opinion on this matter as I am your friend and I am also Vic's friend.

  28. @Demian
Can you clear out what FAILED means, because if I was commissioned by someone to do a layout for them, I'm sure that they don't want it to be PUBLISHED to anyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Guys I suggest you read the GPL. Looks like you don't understand the meaning of open source. There is no such thing as CAN NOT BE PUBLISHED when you modify an open source application. It is public software. I can't believe I'm explaining this to the two of you.

    http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#AssignCopyright

If I use a piece of software that has been obtained under the GNU GPL, am I allowed to modify the original code into a new program, then distribute and sell that new program commercially?
You are allowed to sell copies of the modified program commercially, but only under the terms of the GNU GPL. Thus, for instance, you must make the source code available to the users of the program as described in the GPL, and they must be allowed to redistribute and modify it as described in the GPL.
These requirements are the condition for including the GPL-covered code you received in a program of your own.
